Take Action: Tell MI Legislators to Agree on a Budget that Prioritizes Michiganders
Why the Budget Matters
As lawmakers finalize Michigan’s state budget, we face a simple question: will this budget invest in people and communities, or double down on short-term fixes that leave Michiganders paying more for unreliable power, unhealthy air, and limited transportation options? A balanced budget can deliver safe roads and healthy communities. The current House version of the budget cannot.
What We Are Calling For
To put the health and wellbeing of Michiganders first, the final budget must:
Immediate decisions in the transportation package
- Increase the share for public transit within the road funding package so buses and regional systems are reliable, frequent, and connected.
- Continue and expand EV charging and state fleet electrification, including removing any prohibitions on purchasing or leasing EVs for state use.
- Oppose new fees on EVs and hybrids that penalize cleaner choices and slow Michigan’s mobility leadership.
Complementary investments for community health and affordability
- Expand home weatherization and building electrification, with a focus on rural and low‑income households burdened by high energy costs.
- Fund job training and workforce development for clean‑energy and advanced mobility careers.
- Protect public health by sustaining lead service line replacements, water affordability programs, and air‑quality monitoring.
- Preserving funding for Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Lead Division to ensure adequate support for Michigan families facing lead exposure.
