Tell the Michigan Public Service Commission to Reject DTE's Integrated Resource Plan
DTE is in the process of creating a long-term energy plan, called an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). The IRP outlines DTE’s vision for how to provide energy to their customers. It determines what sources DTE will generate its energy from in the future. The sources they choose will have a direct impact on our electricity bills, health, and the environment.
Last week, community members packed the room at a public hearing hosted by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) in Detroit. Detroit and SE Michigan residents spoke overwhelmingly against approval of DTE’s proposed IRP.
DTE’s proposed plan falls short in terms of its commitments to clean energy, including renewable energy and energy efficiency. And compared to Consumers Energy which just finalized its own plan - it is clearly less ambitious. DTE should be focused on clean, cost-effective energy solutions for all Michiganders, yet they are leaving their path open to more expensive natural gas plants.
In addition to hosting the public hearing, the MPSC is taking input from community members DTE’s proposed IRP through their website. Comments can be submitted on the MPSC’s to mpscedockets@michigan.gov, Case #U-20471. This is an opportunity for you to weigh in on what you want MI’s energy future to look like, and a place to hold DTE accountable to making choices that benefit all Michigan residents.
