Sign On to Support 100% Electric by 2030
The Michigan Clean Car 2030 Campaign, a partnership between the Ecology Center and the Michigan Electric Vehicle Alliance (MEVA), is calling on Michigan legislators and the Governor to set a goal of 100% electric vehicle sales by 2030.
100% electric is achievable. And, It's 100% necessary for our economy, health, and climate.
- Michigan can retain its status as the Motor City state by leading the nation's EV industry. Michigan's EV leadership will bring needed jobs to the state, bolstering our economy.
- In a state with high asthma rates, EVs will reduce air pollution, creating healthier communities.
- A speedy transition to EVs can be on the frontline of Michigan's effort to reduce its GHG emissions and do its part to combat climate change.
Developing clear targets and plans, along with the right mix of supporting policies, is the key to success.
Key provisions of a comprehensive plan or roadmap to support 100% EV sales and 2 million EVs on Michigan's roads by 2030 should, at a minimum, identify what will be needed in the following areas:
- Investments to equitably deploy EV charging infrastructure across MI communities
- Purchase incentives to help offset the higher up-front cost of EVs, especially for low and moderate-income vehicle buyers
- Job transition and retraining programs to ensure MI's workforce is ready
- Incentive programs for recruiting/maintaining EV manufacturing and R&D and assisting MI's auto communities with a just transition
- Conversion of the State of Michigan and local government vehicle fleets to EVs
- An equitable replacement for EV registration fees to support road maintenance
- EV Readiness policies for local governments
- Public Education and outreach
- Battery safety and recycling standards
Sign on to support 100% electric vehicle sales by 2030 and show MI policymakers that we need their commitment to clean electric powered transportation.
Take action to support this goal, such as contacting your local elected officials, writing OpEds to your local newspaper, taking part in local community events, and staying informed.
